Yamaha ProV 150 (1989)

I have had carbs rebuilt by a very good marine mechanic. Considered one of the best. We have replaced the fuel “L” in take on top of the tank and the fuel floats - two 14 gallon tanks / Ranger 374v.

My motor had problems last year of just bogging down when you apply full throttle. It will rev up in neutral but sounds like at first it is struggling but then revs up, however, it will not run at full throttle or get on plane. Had the items replaced and seemed to be fine.

This season, the motor ran like a champ the first four times out. It seemed to run out of gas last time out, switched tanks and finished day. When to fill it up, the tank was not empty, not even close ( good because that would have been terrible gas mileage). I immediately thought about last year’s issue with motor.

Today, boat took off, great hole shot, but when we moved, it fired right up, decent hole shot, but after we slowed down, the motor bogged down again. Just like last year. First signs this year of any continued problems. After playing with the idle and rev it several times, it’s like it cleared, and ran great. Motor sounded like it may had a small miss but seemed to run smooth and fast the rest of the evening.

Primer ball? Fuel blockage ( filter), gas cap, fuel pump…

I’ve been around these for 35 years and I’m no mechanic but I know someone out there has went though this…

HELP!!!

Primer ball, possible fuel connections and sucking some air. Fuel blockage (filter) more probable and may be clogged, gas cap is always a possibly and a vent if fitted, check all lines for perishing and fuel line connection, fuel pump less likely
