I have inherited a boat fitted with a 1994 yamaha 40 forward steer. It starts and idle fine, but I can't get the choke lever or the throttle lever past 35degrees in forward of reverse. Seems to be a lock of some sort preventing either lever past the idle position. Any help would be appreciated.

I was underway using my 9.9 yamaha kicker trolling for salmon. All of a sudden it just stoped moving the boat. The prop still spins in gear but it doesn't push the boat anymore. What in the world happened?

My 1996 Yamaha 90 is running hot. Recently I was running the engine at around 4500 rpm when it slowed to 2900 by itself. I couldn't get it any higher than that. I headed back toward the ramp and within 30 seconds it quit. I tried to restart several times but all I could get was a brief sputter. Back at the ranch I checked for fuel problems, found the pump not working. I changed it. Now it pumps fuel. Started the motor, it runs, but rpms jump around. It will run for a few minutes, then stall. It will immediately restart if I try it. I have a heat warning light flash after about two minutes running. The water coming out is hot, not warm. I checked the thermostat, it opens at 125F, which it should, The relief valve is not stuck. My next thought is possibly the engine is not getting enough oil in the fuel. How do I check this? If I hook up a portable tank with gas/fuel already mixed will this help diagnose the problem?
How do I check the oil pump/screen?
Thanks

My 2000 Yahama 150 outboard on a Skeeter has developed a reversed turning starter motor. However, when jumper cables are used from the boat's battery, it will turn correctly and start the motor. Suggestions on where the problem may lie?

i have a 1995 yamaha 55hp outboard. everything had been working fine but now i am having starter issues. i have replaced and double checked the battery and batery cables. all are good. i have had the starter cleaned and new brushes put in it. the starter barely turns the motor over. i am able to pull start it. none of these things have fixed my problem. i have done everything but replace the starter. any ideas? i am lost.

I have a Yamaha 2 stroke engine with fuel injection. It was running great at 30 knots but suddenly it stopped cold. I was able to restart the boat but only ran at about 9knots. The fuel didn't have water in it. The filter is fine. We used the same amount of fuel going 9 knots as we would have going 30 knots. Any thoughts?

I am having problems with my outboard. I am having trouble starting it. At idle or low speeds it sputters and stalls. At high speeds it runs great. Ill turn the throttle down after running it high for awhile and it will run good for sometime then start sputtering again. I have tried seafoam in the gas and new plugs.

Hi, if any one could help would be much appreciated.
I own CV 50hp Yamaha outboard.
When using on weekend under throttle i used my electric tilt switch which has always worked fine when i stopped it no longer tilted.
It seems to work when under load or throttle but when stationary it simply clicks.
After observing from home with the lid off, the clicking noise comes from the small box with the wires leading into it, as i mentioned it simply clicks when i push the tilt up down button...
All wires look untouched and 20amp fuse is fine in the main red power wire, although there are a black wire, blue wire another red wire visibly i cant see anything wrong but im unsure to all this wish i had manuel tilt but i guess just one of those things any help or trouble shooting advice very helpful thanks for your time.

Howdy guys, bought a boat a couple of months back, and have had a few problems. After a few hundred meters at wot, the revs died back, until eventual stall. Would always restart. Fuel tank, lines, connectors replaced. Carbies were cleaned (absolutely filthy), motor serviced, at this point also noticed throttle advance clip was broken, and so was replaced. All work done by yamaha dealer. On the water today, boat was magnificent, until late in the trip. Was crossing a mates wake in fairly rough conditions (was about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle (4000rpm) after the crossing, went to wot, and the revs died back to 2200rpm. Could not get anything more out of it. So i stopped and anchored and fished for a around 10 mins. Started her up again, and was fine. Seems when she bury's into a trough or wave, she dies. any ideas?

I have a 1998 Yamaha V-Max 150 outboard. I just purchased the boat and it ran fine when I bought it. I took it out last week and noticed when going from about half to full throttle, the motor bogs briefly before running out at full throttle. This is the only time it bogs down, otherwise it runs and idles fine. I have no idea what the problem is..Help please..
