I had this problem and I removed the starter motor and had it tested, it was fine. I ended up changing the slave solenoid after which, the ground wire from the slave solenoid began to smoke. I changed the ground wire and that stopped. Later discovered that when I had the starter out the wire from the starter solenoid to the starter was never re-tightened. After this, everything was fine, for about a day, starter motor cranking with plenty of juice. Then, next day, I turn the key, I hear something sizzle, and now I just get a click.
Checked everything with a tester, power going into the solenoids and back to the starter motor, battery is strong, grounds seem good. Re-checked the wiring, everything is correct. Jumped the solenoid, no good. Not sure where to go next.

When accelerating there is a noticeable rattling from the starboard side of engine compartment. Starts at about 1200 - 1500 rpm and stops when the boat planes. There is no noise at idle as well as no noise when steering is turned either all the way right or left when idling or under way. Before I haul and have the outdrive removed to check gimbal etc. could it be the motor mounts or is most likely the gimbal bearing and or u joints? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Engine in 26 ft striper. Just replaced starter but now water is not circulating. Also, the throttle cable does not move at the engine. I thought is was broke, but it will move at the end and when disconnected from the carburetor.

Today we went to the lake and the boat was running great. We stopped at the beach and dropped off some smaller kids and picked up 5 teens to go tubing. It pulled great for the first two runs but the third set of kids, the throttle was pushed all the way down and it would only going 9-11 mph. It was seriously lacking power. Then it did it again for a little while, while other smaller kids tubed, then it got better after and only bogged down a little while towing a little later but we weren't even near our weight limit and they weren't huge people tubing, we should of had plenty of power??? It's really bothering me, what could cause this?? I also feel like the steering felt a little tight today.

2005 Chaparral SSi 236 with 5.0 Volvo Penta. I've had no issues with the boat cranking until last week. Crunk right up and went 3 minutes down the lake and turned it off for about 5 min. Tried to start it again and it turns over and cranks up for just a split second. Charged battery to make sure it's getting full power. Had someone check the fuel pump/filter and it all looked good. Any suggestions? I had heard inboards were nothing but trouble and I'm hoping this will be something simple.

2003 Regal 2000 bowrider with 5.0 GXI Volvo Penta. 3 yrs ago, the engine wouldn't start. the mechanic said it was the fuel pump assembly, he removed it cleaned it and put it back on. the boat ran fine for 1 outing. He said it might and so I bought the new assembly and installed it myself. Boat ran great till last summer. Running fine pulling tubers and all of the sudden it loses power. Wont start. wait a few minutes , boat starts pulls up to speed for 5-10 minutes and loses power again. This happened repeatedly, so we quit and I parked the boat till today. I put seafoam in it for the winter, kept it warm during freezing nights. Decided to check it out today. Started fine, idled around waiting for son parking trailer, died once while idling, but started right back up. Ran flawlessly up and down the lake for 30 minutes doing full speed, half speed, starts and stops etc. Then it ran rough at idle, died and wouldn't start. Took it out of gear and gave it 1/4 throttle and it started, let it run a bit, returned to idle and put it in gear. Again it ran flawless for a while and then at no wake speed did it again. Got it running and ran it around some before docking and loading out to trailer.
