the shaft that enters the top end of the motor might have stripped teeth on the end.. it'll turn but as soon as there's load on it, it slips freely. i had it happen to me in the worst place... took me 6hrs to get back. i fixed mine with jb weld but it didn't last long. i was later told the best way to repair this is to melt a bronzing rod into the hole where the shaft goes... drill out a series of hole in the shape of a slot screwdriver.. then the shaft you grind down flat so that it fits in the holes you drill out.. hope that helps...
just to confirm the motor did rev super high.. i had the pin let go on me and it didn[t rev high

sounds like you have a broken shear pin. It is a small pin br etween the prop and the drive shaft, meant to break to save the prop. Remove prop to replace pin.
