Bought the 140 hp with great compression, really clean from a guy that built/sold used e rudes from his home for $400 without a lower unit. I had a running 85hp that I was going to take the lower unit off of and put it on the 140.I new it would fit because the internet said so. The lower unit didn't fit, to small (bolt pattern) so after hours of research I found out about commercial, large, and type O and type M lower units. But I didn't read anything about commercial 140hp around 1979.Alot of smaller motors where commercial. I narrowed it down to the type O but I don't know if the "large" and "commercial" lower units have the same bolt pattern as the type O. There was also some info about 2 piece drive shafts and using V6 lower units and re gearing or changing the prop for correct torque....so in other words I'm overwhelmed with all this info. It's Striper time and I don't have a boat. I thought I got a good deal for $400 but it looks like I was prayed upon by a fellow human being. And people wonder what's wrong with the world....I don't because I know what's wrong, every man for himself as long as you don't get caught and can sleep at night. Help me please.
