Mercury 75hp 2003

Hello all, I purchased my boat used about 2 years ago. I wasn't able to put it on the water due to covid shutting down the state parks here. Anyways, I put it on the water for the first time a few months ago. It crunk up but idles roughly. I went to load it back up after fishing and was coming up on the docks a little too fast. I put it in reverse to slow me down a bit. It made a huge clunk and it(the prop) started clicking in both forward and reverse. The sound is worse in reverse. Someone told me to tighten my shift linkage cables down a bit but I want to get more opinions on the issue. Thank you in advance for taking your time out to answer.
