Mercury 150 2016

Hi. I have a 2016 150 which is on a Nitro Sport. The limiter switch on the motor is acting up. will lift up but not down. a mercury mechanic showed me the orange wire to buy pass the switch, and have completely bypassed it. The gauge says the motor is all of the way up even when its down and when running the boat it only goes up to 3000 RPM and the motor starts to cut out. Are these problems related, or are they separate issues? I discovered the lift issues when getting ready for my trip, did not discover the RPM issue until i put it in the water yesterday.
