On the 90 hp Johnson, when facing the motor, on the rightside of the transit mount, there is a hole with a large straight edge screw, back it out and it will relaese the presure on the hydralic ram and you will be able to raise the motor.

raising your motor manually by: Anonymous
sir,
I may be able to answer your question even though I have a 90 merc. there should be a
manual release screw on the trim/tilt motor
toward the bottom. you may be able to acess it from the side through a small hole in the mounting bracket. this is a large thread-in
screw probably hard plastic. use a flat bladed
screwdriver and turn ccw about 3 to 4 turns.
cyl lock will release and you can manually
release and lift motor. motor is heavy so you
may need to get help. I would highly recommend
using a motor support once you get it up.be sure
to turn manual release back in after you lift your
motor. hope this helps.
