As I was driving across the lake yesterday, my outboard began to run very roughly. It started knocking pretty hard and eventually started making a grinding sound. I idled down and shifted to neutral. The grinding continued until it eventually stopped the motor from running.
Now when I try to start it, the starter works normally, jumping up and connecting with the flywheel, but then it locks right there without turning the flywheel around. The starter goes back down as it should once you turn the key back to ‘on’. Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?
Although I’m no mechanic, I don’t think it has anything to do with the battery or the cables or electrical connections. To me, it seems like something is jammed somewhere.
