The Newport international boat show is on and it's on very soon. Last year was ruined thanks to our pandemic virus mates and this year nothing is stopping it from going ahead, so let's get back to our new normal and turn up and support it. The organizers are having a raft of giveaways in celebration of their 50th anniversary. Like most boat shows you can spend hours gathering information on products and services. You can bend the ear of exhibitor staff and pick up some great information. You gather a bag full of brochures to take home and peruse at leisure, sample some great food or a drink, what’s not to love.
The Newport International Boat Show (NIBS), remains one of the largest and probably the most prestigious of all boat shows in the United States. It spans an enormous area in the most famous sailing town in the world, Newport, Rhode Island. Home of teh America's Cup. It is a great town to visit, great restaurants and shopping.
So put on your best boat shoes and have a long walk along the pontoons and inspect or just dream about some of the best sailboats and powerboats on the market today.
Walk the docks and view a spectacular display of shiny new sailboats and powerboats, As usual there are so many marine manufacturers exhibiting, some with new equipment and products and others with some nice to haves.
Also well worth the visit is the educational seminars and boating courses on offer as like all great boat shows it’s about the acquisition of information and boating knowledge.
All the big boat manufacturers will be there as will be major marine electronics people like B & G Navico, Raymarine, Cay Electronics, Simrad-Navico, KVH and Icoma and if you want better battery charging visit Balmar for advice. Also on the marine electrics are Oceanvolt, Xantex and Victron Energy for inverters. For electronic charts be sure to visit Maptech and Landfall. AS my Norwegian mates tell me, no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing, so there are many exhibitors with clothing such as Helly-Hansen. Also check out the compact generators from Fischer Panda. A good cohort of anchor and anchor products are in attendance.

My favorite cruising magazine Cruising World is there with the Cruising World and Sailing World booth located on North Commercial Wharf on either Friday or Saturday between 13.00 and 15.00 hours. I always recommend that experienced cruising sailors stop by, have a yarn with editors and share some personal sea stories, as often some of those sailing gems trickle down into very useful articles for the rest of us. They also are running some competitions with prizes from West marine and some others. They are asking for some great photos so take your phone along and let them have a look. Check out the website and book your tickets at Newport International Boat Show.
