1989 evinrude 150 cracked motor mount plate

hello. we have an evinrude 150 vro that developed a crack in the starboard side plate that I am told covers the lower motor mount The crack has extended to the actual lower unit housing above the plate My marine mechanic said it is a salt buildup around the mount and to ignore it I wish I could remove the 4 bolts to see what is inside but they are so tight that I fear snapping them off. Any suggestions?
