1988 force 125

I've been told it has a shifting issue. It's starts idles fine but when put in gear its no good. Says hard to get in gear some times. Pops out of gear. Not sure. Mention dog gear I believe. I'm not sure. Any and all info you can telle is greatly appreciated.
