As soon as my speedometer quit working the boat started to take on some water- need help?

I didnot see what kind of boat you have, but a friend has a ski nautique and he had a similar problem. In his boat, the speedometer was powered by a water hose. When the hose came loose behind the dash, the speedometer stopped working and we began taking on water.
