Just picked up a cheap, older boat from a buddy with a Johnson 140 VRO. It's a project for me at the lake on my days off.
I'm mechanically inclined, but not with boats and want to learn a bit while fixing it up.
OK so my main issue with it is when I put it full throttle it takes a couple of minutes to hit about 35mps. After that time it seems like it's clipping pretty good.
The prop was pretty banged up so I grabbed a replacing today and will be also replacing the spark plugs and grabbing a compression tester to check that out.
I'd appreciate any feedback on the issue I mentioned above, as well as anything I could rebuild or replace on an older motor. I've done a bit of research and think I will be bypassing the VRO and mixing my own fuel.
Thanks for your time
