Honda Outboard Engine BF15, 2003

The engine can start from cold crank smoothly in the morning. I turned it off for 5 minutes in the middle of lake. When I wanted to continue cruising, it can't be started for no reason. I noticed that the primer bulb can only be squeeze up to 80% hard, not fully hard as I firstly prime. We rested for around 2 hours in the middle of lake, then everything be fine again. Such intermittent starting failure happened three times in the last week. By the way, the fuel line, primer bulb, fuel filter are all newly replaced. It is 2003 Honda BF15 with carberetor. Can you shed lights on this issue?

no start when motor hot
by: Anonymous

there are two issues:
1. electrical, when components get hot they fail to work,
next time when the motor is hot and you try to restart, unplug the spark plug, plug another spark plug and see if it is sparking when trying to start
2. Fuel, it is more complicated but your test would be to try to start your motor, than remove the spark plug and see if it is dry or wet, dry = no fuel. So you troubleshoot a fuel connections, filters, carb etc. If wet, than again, mote likely no spark, than you troubleshoot electrical
