I am rebuilding my tilt cylinder assembly replacing the seals because the fluid leaked. How much hydraulic fluid does it require? Or does anyone know where I can find information on how much fluid to add.
The part number is 0172908 cylinder assembly for 1986 Evinrude 40 hp E40TLCDE Outboard motor.

1985 70 HP Evenrude starting problems
I was out in the boat yesterday and noticed the engine laboring and not able to go full throttle even though the lever was in full throttle
I suddenly heard a snap from the motor and all quit
I was unable to start the engine and had to be towed back
At home I was unable to turn the flywheel by hand, removed all the plugs and still no success
I was able to turn the flywheel with a wrench on the nut, but it was tight
When I put the gear lever in reverse or forward, the prop would turn, in neutral it would not turn as it is supposed to
I recharged the battery and even though the starter engaged the flywheel, it was unable to turn it
i have a 1989 evinrude 60hp outboard motor that is hard to start when it is cold on some days and it doesn't matter if there is load or not. but once it starts and warm up for for 30second or more, it works great. i have rebuilt all 3 carbs, fuel pump/solenoids, checked compression, changed out plugs, checked all wiring for bad contacts and coil packs, all checked fine. doesn't overheat or stalls when working. i run premium fuel. i am lost at this point, anyone have any idea to where to go from here. thanks..Sean

I have got a problem that has started recently and is getting progressively worse. Motor was serviced three months ago, new plugs, compression good, carbies cleaned out, new fuel tank, primer. Starts first time, idles well in and out of the water. Once warmed up will make way at 10kph (10kph limit) out of the river to open bay, but when you put the hammer down it is slow to pick up over a period of 1 minutes your finally up to about 25kph then another minute we are at 4000rpm and 35kph. The throttle the whole time is in the WOT position, then after another 4-5 mins at 4000rpm and 38-40kph, like someone flicks a switch, instant full power 6000rpm 55kph we are flying, like it used to, for as long as we want or until we slow to only a complete stop, shut it down, fish for a while(1 hour) and try to take off again. Once the problem has cleared we can troll at slow speed, move to another location at speed, troll again, take off again all without incident. Boat is a 4.5m fibreglass open cab runabout and up until recently would shoot out of the hole up on the plane and accelerate to 55-60kph @5500rpm in under a 30 seconds, if my fishing buddy was still standing I would have lost him overboard when I went to WOT, previously, before this issue it was one instant movement of the throttle from 1/4 to WOT and away it would go.
I dont believe its carbies because it will run all day at 5000-6000rpm with plenty of power once it gets there. Im thinking power pack, once it gets hot everything is fine, maybe heat expansion? I cant test it on the muffs as it runs great.
Open to any advice, just dont know where to start, my boat mechanic has offered a test powerpack as this is his thoughts or maybe a stator.
Sorry for the long description but its a weird problem that I can find a similar one on any forum. Most issues are the reverse of mine, heaps of power first up then dying off. The motor never lets me down always starts and will always give me full power after 6-7 minutes of frustration. Happy to hear anyones thoughts! Help Please!

I have a 1976 &) HP Evinrude that was stored for 7 years. It only has 470 hours on it, as the previous oner kept a complete log of all the fuel used.
I replaced the water pump impeller, thermostate, etc and it starts right up. It runs smooth up to 1800 RPM, but won't go higer unless I advance the throtle very slowly, then it goes up to 2000 RPM. If I advance the throtle more the engine slows down. It has 100 psi on all three cylinders.
Any Ideas?

I have a 1978 evinrude,35 hp motor and alot of the wiring needs replaced. The wiring under the cap has become so brittle that when you move it , it brakes. I am having trouble finding replacement parts and actual diagrams.

Novice could use general advice cleaning up neglected small boat to good running condition. 14' aluminum V-hull runabout w/1992 Evinrude 48 hp ... unused for several years sitting in a backyard. Removed most of the leaves and debris and will unbolt the rotted plywood sub-floor. Hull mildewed, stained & corroded but not severely, only appears to need grinding/paint ... some cracked rotted weatherstripping under the windshield. Controls look in decent shape but unfamiliar to me ... please advise a good source for cliff notes on simple boat controls re: care and usage. Also will need to learn the fundamentals on motor care and operation. Outboard half covered with green algae but very clean under the cover, once again it hasn't been run in several years at least. It seemed like a good idea to ask some of you experienced guys how to go about fixing up this little unit for general use. Any input will be appreciated, no matter how basic. Many thanks.

It has now been happening from the past 3 months. When ever we put the enigne in gear it just stalls. We have shown it to a couple of boat mechanics changed and checked some parts. Yesterday we changed the carborator repair kit and the fuel kit. But still the same result.
it does not go into gear either forward or reverese. just cuts off. What could be the problem please help we are going crazy by the day.

I have put new plugs, carb gasket, filter, drained old gas cleaned carbs and it will idle for a minute or less and when I hold at a steady rev it loads up but if I put the primer solenoid to manual position instead of run position it runs fine just won't idle at all
