A little history: The engine started to lose rpm at criuse at 4100rpm. The engine would just slow down about 600 rpm. After a 30-60 seconds it would gain the speed and rpm back. I thoroughly checked the fuel system from tank to VRO. Absolutely tight, no vacume leaks or fuel leaks. The tach quit working, slightly hard to start and stay idling.
Replaced the voltage regulator/rectifier unit (water cooled) and started and ran like a new engine until we headed back in to tie up to the pier. Pulled back in neutral, engine slowed down and quit. Would start and idle very slowly, slow down and die. So, basically it will crank, start, but not idle. Plugged were changed this spring, don't think they are an issue.
Any ideas? Being a 97 model, and changing a major electrical component, would I need to have a marine mechanic check the ignition/carburetion synch?
